Marsden yacht club was founded in 1974. it originally sailed at marsden point. the club grew, and whangarei district council land was secured by lease and the clubrooms at one tree point were opened in 1992.. The inner harbour is a haven for snapper, kingfish, tarakihi, gurnard and in the permitted season scallops, all within a short distance from the shoreline. otp is also home to marsden yacht and boat club, the club currently owns 5 optimist class sailing dinghies, 2 lasers, 1 rs feva and 1 starling..
