During discussion of the area’s history, citizens expressed a strong interest in preserving the community’s history of wooden boat building. the boat building school was included as a cultural component of the hollering place concept plan which was adopted by the city in december 2008.. Founded in 1981, the school has taught traditional and contemporary wooden boatbuilding skills to more than 1,500 students. we offer a full-time 12 month associate of occupational studies (aos) degree in traditional and contemporary wooden boatbuilding as well as a 6-month diploma program in marine systems.. The great lakes boat building school teaches and inspires students in the art and craft of wooden boat building, from design to launch, preparing them for productive and rewarding careers in the fine woodworking and marine trades..
